Argument in a Superstore
This is a short experimental animated film by Stuart Hilton. These drawings, notes and doodles are animated and combined with fragments of everyday sound to create another view of city life. The abstract style does not express the sounds as the objects creating them but represent an overall feel for the ambience created by the individual sounds.

"Aria" with "Fontana Mix" and "For Reymon"
These compositions by John Cage are graphic scores created on translucent overlays when instruments are being played. As the music is improvised the graphics can not be determined before the piece has been performed. Cage's innovation in graphic music takes some inspiration from his friend and artist Marcel Duchamp.

Analog vs Digital

Analog and digital deliver information very differently. Analog is the preferred method for use in car dash boards as it communicates the change via a dial in speed and so on. The progression on an analog dial communicates in peripheral vision. Digital displays do not deliver as instantly as analog as they are not recognised as changing in progression.
Grand Theft Auto
Again interface display works well. The map at the bottom left represents danger interestingly and simply. The information is easy to consume and desect.
Metal Gear Solid 4
I looked at such games for inspiration on interface design. The fluid perimeter that surrounds the character acts as a device to warn the player of danger and peaks accordingly. Such information is delivered simply but effective as the primary focus is on the game itself as opposed to secondary information that is vital to the player.
Flight Simulator
This flight simulator show how information is displayed on the interface minimally and successfully.
Oskar Fischinger-Early Abstractions
Oskar Fischinger also used music as an enhancement of animation...
Paul Klee-Paintings
Paul Klee like Kandinsky has taken much visual inspiration in relation to music. As a trained artist and musician Klee uses music as an inspiration to his work.
Through the Ozone The Art of Wassily Kandinsky
This short film looks at a collection of Kandinsky's work. The geometric shapes used are sharp and abstract.
Wassily Kandinsky Animation
Kandinsky's art is very abstract in form and resembles form of suprematism art.

Testing with soundkeys
I experimented with sound keys in after effects to show how a car horn can differ and the reaction such a difference animates each component.

Norman McLaren-Dots
I have been highly influenced by Norman McLaren's work due to his visual expression. McLaren's experimentation led him to developing hand-drawings as visuals for synthetic sound. This animated look at sound is relevant to my research on the subject of 'visualizing sound'. It projects how the visualization of sound can be developed and communicated, and has presented me with one professional person's interpretation of sound.
